OAG Summer Associate Program (Law Students)

The Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia (OAG) seeks highly qualified first and second year law students to work as volunteers during their summer vacations from law school. The program is designed to provide law students with a challenging legal experience that reflects the demands and rewards of public service, as well as a program focused on legal research and writing. OAG selects well-rounded law students from law schools across the nation who have exhibited academic excellence and have a strong interest in public service.

Summer Associates will work closely with Assistant Attorneys General (AAG's) on a variety of legal issues within any one of the nine practice groups within OAG. In some assignments, Summer Associates may assist AAG's in preparing cases for trial. Other assignments may include drafting motions and legal memoranda, drafting regulations, attending mediations and arbitrations, meeting with agency clients, and otherwise providing support to the practice group.

The program includes social activities designed to allow Summer Associates and members of OAG to become acquainted in less formal settings. In addition, OAG will offer a variety of programs, including lectures by speakers who will address legal issues that affect the District of Columbia. The program requires a minimum 8 week commitment.

OAG seeks talented, promising individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. OAG is proud that its staff reflects the racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity of Washington, DC. OAG is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Learn more about the program from the following:
