Organization

Currently, the Office of the Attorney General consists of the following divisions:

  • Appellate Division
  • Child Support Enforcement Division
  • Civil Litigation Division
  • Commercial Division
  • Family Services Division
  • The Office of the Attorney General is structured much like a private law firm, with sections devoted to legal specialties. Some 230 employees serve as legal assistants, secretaries, investigators, and other professional staff. The legal staff numbers approximately 240 lawyers and includes:

    • Chief Deputy Attorney General
    • Deputy Attorneys General
    • Assistant Deputy Attorneys General
    • Assistant Attorneys General

    By operation of a recently-enacted law, attorneys in other District agencies were brought under the supervision and control of the Attorney General. Currently there are 23 agencies (other than the OAG) subject to this new law, which affects approximately 100 attorneys.
